Nancy Reynolds appointed the Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing
Nancy R. Reynolds, newly appointed as the Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing, has focused her research on preventing transmission and improving the treatment outcomes of persons living with HIV.
Reynolds received her B.S.N from the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. from the Ohio State University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester. Before coming to Yale in 2007, she served on the faculty of the Ohio State University.
Reynolds is an internationally recognized expert in the area of illness behavior of persons living with HIV. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and abstracts on topics such as self-management in chronic illness, HIV medication adherence, and self-regulation theory. Reynolds has led several interdisciplinary, multi-site trials to develop and test interventions using low-cost cellphone technology to extend health care services and improve health outcomes of vulnerable populations living with HIV. She is actively engaged in several HIV-related global health initiatives for women and children sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USAID, Yale-China,and the Clinton Foundation in collaboration with international academic and government partners.
The Yale professor is also active in the research training of pre- and post- doctoral fellows as the former director of the Ph.D. and postdoctoral programs at the Yale School of Nursing and director of an ongoing T32 training grant in chronic illness self-management (NIH, NINR).
Reynolds has served on multiple NIH scientific review panels and provides ongoing consultation to NIH as a member of the DAIDS Cross Network Behavioral Advisory Committee. At Yale, she is a trustee of the Yale-China Association and member of the Yale Global Health Faculty Advisory Committee, the Downs Fellowship Committee, and the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS. She has been honored with numerous awards and is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
