Fiona Scott Morton designated the Theodore Nierenberg Professor of Economics
Fiona M. Scott Morton, newly named as the Theodore Nierenberg Professor of Economics at the Yale School of Management (SOM), focuses her research on empirical studies of competition among firms in areas such as pricing, entry, and product differentiation.
Scott Morton has contributed numerous articles to economics journals on topics ranging across industries, including magazine publishing, shipping, pharmaceuticals, and Internet retailing. She has served on the editorial boards of various academic economics journals, including the Journal of Economic Perspectives and the Journal of Economics Analysis and Policy. She recently finished a term on the American Economic Review Board of Editors.
From 2011 to 2012, Scott Morton served as the deputy assistant attorney general for economics at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where she helped enforce the nation’s antitrust laws.
Scott Morton is the recipient of several research grants from the National Science Foundation. She won the Green Award from the Journal of Marketing Research. In 2007, she was chosen by SOM students to receive the Yale SOM Alumni Association Teaching Award.
After receiving her B.A. from Yale in 1989, Scott Morton attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she was awarded her Ph.D. in economics. She held teaching positions at the Graduate Schools of Business at the University of Chicago and Stanford University before joining the SOM faculty in 1999. She is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences across the United States and Europe.
