Annual Chili Throwdown fundraiser returns Nov. 24
“Eat. Vote. Give.” That’s the straightforward slogan for the 2014 Chili Throwdown fundraiser sponsored by Yale Dining, which will be held noon-1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24 in Commons Dining Hall (inside Woolsey Hall).
The “eat” part is simple. Chefs from around the campus and beyond submit their special chili concoctions for participants to taste-test. The entries are anonymous and, in previous years, have varied widely in both their ingredients and their “heat.”
The chili lovers then “vote” for their favorite recipe(s) by dropping tokens into the jar placed by each entry. The winning chef receives the “People’s Choice” prize, and bragging rights for the year.
It is, however, the “give” in the slogan that is the most critical part of the annual event. Entry to the Chili Throwdown is $5, and the proceeds from the tickets — and the silent auction held during the event — go to the United Way to support programs serving the Greater New Haven area.
