Fresh off the plane from a press tour in Paris to promote her movie “August: Osage County,” award-winning actress Meryl Streep ’75 M.F.A., ’83 DFA (Hon.) made a brief stop at Yale yesterday, and while on campus, gave a talk to the School of Drama community at the Yale Repertory Theatre.

Streep — whose films include “The Iron Lady,” “Sophie’s Choice,” and “Kramer vs. Kramer” — has been nominated for 18 Academy Awards (including this year for “August: Osage County”) and has won three.

The celebrated actress paid homage to the Yale Rep stage where she had performed while a student here, saying that she was overwhelmed to be back.

In an informal question-and-answer format, Streep spoke candidly to the audience members who listened to her stories and advice with rapt attention.

In her almost two-hour talk, Streep discussed topics such as how has she evolved as an actress over the years, how she chooses her roles, how technology has changed movie-making, and how she has found balance in her career and her home life.
