Richard Mosse, a photographer and Yale graduate (M.F.A. ’08), whose work has been featured in exhibitions all over the world, will come to Yale on Wednesday, Feb. 5 as a Poynter Fellow in Journalism.

Mosse will give a talk about his work at 2 p.m. in Rm. G10 of Green Hall, 1156 Chapel St. The event is free and open to the public.

After studying English literature as an undergraduate at Kings College in London, Mosse began to work in photography. He has since studied at several other institutions in the United Kingdom and United States, receiving degrees and fellowships in photography and fine arts.

Mosse’s work focuses on photojournalistic subjects, allowing him to revisit what he describes as traumatic cultural histories, most notably in Iraq and the Congo. While he photographs real-life scenes and people, Mosse has received recognition for using Kodak Aerochrome, an infrared film that creates colorful, almost surrealist, images.

The photographer’s most recent exhibit, “The Enclave,” has been shown in Ireland and Italy, among other locations. “The Enclave” highlights the war zone in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a region plagued by militarized violence and massive destruction. The exhibit features both photographs and film taken during Mosse’s time in the DRC.

The Poynter Fellowship in Journalism was established by Nelson Poynter, who received his master’s degree in 1927 from Yale. The fellowship brings to campus journalists from a wide variety of media outlets who have made significant contributions to their field. Among recent Poynter fellow are Jill Abramson, Nathaniel Rich, and James Bennet.
