Yale affiliate’s award-winning film to launch on iTunes
“Six Million and One,” an award-winning documentary directed by David Fisher, the Shusterman Visiting Artist in Judaic Studies and Film Studies, will launch on iTunes and other video-on-demand platforms on Monday, Jan. 27, which is International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“Six Million and One” profiles Fisher and his siblings who set out on a journey to retrace the steps of their father, a Hungarian Holocaust survivor. The film, which won Best Documentary at Dokfest Munich, also features interviews with American WWII veterans who liberated the concentration camp in Gunskirchen. The documentary was screened at Yale earlier this month.
Fisher, who is teaching at Yale this semester, is regarded as one of Israel’s leading documentary filmmakers. One of his most notable films, “Love Inventory,” won the Best Documentary Award at the 2000 Jerusalem International Film Festival and the Israeli Film Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2000, and had its international premiere at the 2001 Berlin International Film Festival. The film was distributed to cinemas in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Israel and was broadcast on ARTE France and Germany and on PBS’s “Independent Lens” series in the United States.
