SPECIAL EVENT

Pizza Fest on the Green, featuring pies from pizzerias all around town; proceeds benefit New Haven’s Connection Fund. Noon-2 p.m. (Also: June 28, noon.) Info.

PERFORMANCES
At 8 p.m. Indian dancer Shantala Shivalingappa will present the U.S. premiere of her new Kuchipudi solo “Akasha,” which explores her wide-ranging traditions and contemporary influences.

“Sequence 8,” an acrobatic dance and theater piece by the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (7 Fingers). 8 p.m. (Also: June 28, 8 p.m.; June 29, 2 p.m.) Info.

Orquestra Afinke on the Green, a Latin American group playing everything from salsa, merengue, cumbia, plena, bolero, latin jazz, and guaracha; also presenting a family workshop earlier in the day. 6 p.m. Free. Info.

Gumbo Diablo on the Green, featuring the sound the group calls “pan-Americana,” mixing such traditions as zydeco and rhythm and blues from Louisiana, cumbia from Columbia, forro from Brazil, and modern rock. Noon. Free. Info.

 “The Quiet Volume,” an intimate theatrical experience about books, reading, and the communal experience of the library. 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., with new shows beginning each half hour. (Also: June 28, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.) Info.

“L’homme Cirque,” a one-man circus featuring everything from a human cannon ball to a climactic high-wire act. 7:30 p.m. (Also: June 28, 7:30 p.m.; June 29, 1 p.m. & 5 p.m.) Info.

“Stuck Elevator,” a comic-rap-scrap metal musical prompted by the real life experience of a Chinese restaurant delivery man trapped in a Bronx elevator for 81 hours. 8 p.m. (Also: June 28, 8 p.m.; June 29, 2 p.m. & 8 p.m.) Info.

Shantala Shivalingappa, a performance by the classical Indian dancer who specializes in the traditional south Indian dace form of Kuchipudi. 8 p.m. (Also June 28, 8 p.m.) Info.
