GHLI launches visiting scholars program
The Global Health Leadership Institute (GHLI) has launched a new visiting scholars program to connect scholars from around the world with students and faculty at Yale.
During their time at Yale, visiting scholars will offer public lectures, meet with students, and bring expertise to Yale faculty. This semester, GHLI will host three scholars from Canada, Rwanda, and China, with support from the Gruber Foundation at Yale.
The Peter and Patricia Gruber Fellows in Global Justice will focus on a wide range of issues including governance and access to medicines, health systems modeling, and health management.
In addition to visiting scholars, GHLI also hosts an annual conference where delegations from around the world discuss current health challenges and problem solve collaboratively. This year the conference will include delegations from Brazil, Uganda, the Eastern Caribbean, and Ghana. In the future visiting scholars may aid GHLI delegates in follow-up after the conference.

Jillian Clare Kohler
University of Toronto
Kohler has a joint appointment in the School of Pharmacology and the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto. Her work focuses on governance and drug access for the global poor, the political economy of pharmaceutical policy, and ethics and corruption in pharmaceutical systems.
Cai Yu-yang
Shanghai JiaTong University
Yu-yang is associate professor of health policy and management at Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Public Health. His visit will focus on health system dynamic modeling, community policy evaluation, and IT tools in health management.
Jean-Paul Semasaka Sengoma
National University of Rwanda School of Public Health
Sengoma is a teaching and research assistant at the National University of Rwanda School of Public Health and is currently involved in GHLI’s health management program in Rwanda. During his visit, Sengoma will work with GHLI on the development of a certificate-level training program for senior hospital leadership and an applied mentorship program for hospital managers in Rwanda’s leading referral hospitals.
