Yale and Universia collaborate to broaden international reach
Yale University President-elect Peter Salovey and Universia President Emilio Botín signed an agreement March 13 marking a new collaboration between the two institutions to expand global education and career opportunities.
Universia, an institutional network of more than 1,000 universities in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, selected Yale as its first educational partner in North America. Universia will support three key initiatives and programs to extend Yale’s global offerings.
Working with career offices on campus, Universia will provide access to job fairs, career opportunities, and internships worldwide through a link to its Web platform.
Universia will also provide translation services for the Open Yale Courses program, a Yale initiative that offers free access to a number of introductory courses taught by Yale faculty. Since the program’s launch in 2007, more than 3.8 million people from around the world have visited Open Yale Courses. To facilitate broader access to this resource, Universia will translate selected courses into Spanish and Portuguese.
In addition, Universia will host a dedicated Web presence for Yale Environment 360, a premier environment and climate change website featuring a daily digest of environmental news and reporting. Universia will translate selected content into Spanish and Portuguese, advancing efforts to bring environmental journalism to its network.
“Through our alliance with Universia, Yale will gain greatly expanded modes of career development, educational outreach, and communication on environmental issues,” Salovey said. “This important support reflects the multifaceted nature of our shared aims.”
“Yale and Universia open today a new chapter of interactions and synergies between the academic communities of the United States and their counterparts in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds,” said Botín. “Universia will link the Yale community to thousands of jobs and opportunities.”
Since its creation in 2000, Universia has been a change agent in the interaction between universities and companies. Today, it has partnerships with 1,242 associated universities and a presence in 23 countries. Universia is a social corporate responsibility project of Banco Santander.
