In partnership with Fudan University in Shanghai, the Yale Global Health Leadership Institute (GHLI) will offer a two-week training program on campus for Chinese psychiatrists. This is the second visit organized by Fudan University, and GHLI hopes this program can become an annual event.

Chinese psychiatrists will enhance their professional training as part of a program designed by GHLI and first run in February, 2012.

The GHLI-Fudan Mental Health Program is a two-week conference for Chinese psychiatrists to learn current best practices in psychiatric care and treatment and clinical research work, and to improve their leadership and management skills.

This professional education program — held Dec. 3 -13 — will include lectures, seminars, panel discussions, hands-on learning exercises, and site visits to some of Connecticut’s best treatment and recovery programs for people with psychiatric illnesses and addictions. During their study at Yale, the doctors will visit Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, Connecticut Valley Hospital, and the Program for Recovery and Community Health.

“Last year’s program really proved to be quite successful in providing a fascinating look into the challenges our Chinese colleagues encounter,” said Martha Dale, director of GHLI China Programs.  “We hope to once again have this Fudan partnership be a fruitful learning experience for both Yale and the Fudan visitors.”

Participants will also work on a project that teaches problem-solving and project management skills, using real-life examples of opportunities for change management.

GHLI senior leadership and China program staff will lead the Yale GHLI-Fudan Mental Health executive education.
