Natural history collections leap into the digital age
Yale University has a distinguished history as a steward of cultural heritage. In this video, Chris Norris, senior collections manager at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History and president of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History (SPNHC), discusses how museums can harness social media to increase public access to their natural history collections.
The Peabody recently hosted the 27th annual SPNHC symposium, which focused on “Emerging Technology and Innovation in Natural History Collections.”
Award-winning science writer Carl Zimmer delivered the keynote address, “From the Page to the Pixel: When Science Writing Goes Online,” in which he highlights the importance of digital technology in disseminating accurate information about the latest discoveries in science.
