World No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska (pictured here), four-time defending champion Caroline Wozniacki and rising American star Christina McHale will be among the top-ranked women tennis players competing at the tournament.

The thwack of a ball against a tennis racquet, the blazing white streak of a player diving after a serve — Yale faculty, staff, and students can enjoy the sights and sounds of world-class women’s tennis at a substantial discount this summer, thanks to a special, exclusive offer from the New Haven Open at Yale presented by First Niagara.

The 2012 tournament will be held Aug. 17-25 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale on Derby Avenue.

This is the second year that the tournament has provided a discount to the campus community, and this year, the savings are even steeper.

Faculty, staff, and students will receive 25% off individual box seats, with preferred seating on the north baseline. These seats regularly go for $55 for session 1 (Aug. 19) and rise in price throughout the tournament, peaking at $91 for the final round.

Yale community members can also purchase middle-tier seats for $15 during sessions 1-12 (Aug. 19-25). These seats normally begin at $19 and peak at $44.

In addition, $2 of every middle-tier ticket that is purchased will be donated to the Smilow Cancer Hospital Breast Center at Yale-New Haven.

The exclusive discount is valid whether purchasing tickets online or by phone. To order online, visit the tournament’s ticket website and enter promotion code 2012YALE; to purchase by phone, call 855-464-8366 and reference Yale University. Tickets go on sale June 1.

Four-time champion and World No. 6 Caroline Wozniacki and World No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska have already committed to play this year, as has American No. 2 Christina McHale.

In addition to world-class women’s tennis, the tournament will offer fans a host of off-court activities, including the Aetna FitZone, New Haven Food & Wine Festival, autograph sessions, live entertainment, and more.
