During his first trip to the United States as chancellor of Peking University (PKU), Zhu Shanlu met with President Richard Levin to renew two agreements that will continue student exchanges between PKU and Yale.

The agreements extend the Peking University Summer Program at Yale, which enables select PKU students to attend classes at Yale for credit during the summer, and the Peking University-Yale University Joint Undergraduate Program in Beijing. The latter is the only program that allows undergraduate students from a foreign university to have its students live with PKU students rather than in the international dorm and has an array of classes taught by Yale and PKU faculty specifically for these students. Unlike other programs, this is a full immersion experience.

These two programs are among the many collaborations that Yale has with PKU and other universities in China. During the 2010-2011 academic year and summer, Yale undergraduates participated in 177 activities in China, including study, internship, and research experiences.
