Dr. Stephanie Spangler, deputy provost for health affairs, has been appointed to oversee the Title IX program at Yale, announced Provost Peter Salovey.

“The recent Report to the President and Fellows of Yale University of the Advisory Committee on Campus Climate outlined a series of measures aimed at promoting a culture of respect and responsibility at the University,” said the Provost. “In addition to specific recommendations, many of which have been implemented or are currently underway, a recurring theme throughout the report emphasized the need for a high level of leadership and University-wide coordination of Title IX efforts.”

Spangler will oversee the University’s compliance with Title IX, providing supervision, training, and guidance to all Title IX coordinators, and assessing the campus climate with respect to gender. She will incorporate these responsibilities within the recently established Provost’s Office of Academic Integrity, which she oversees and which also maintains policies and promotes awareness regarding ethical standards for the conduct of research and scholarship at Yale.

“A deputy provost since 1995, Dr. Spangler has developed a deep understanding of the University, and her wisdom and leadership are already well known to many of you,” said Salovey.

She is the provostial liaison for the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health, as well as Yale University Health Services, Environmental Health and Safety, and other health-related units. For the past two years she has served as associate vice president for West Campus planning and program development. Before assuming her present position, she was director of Yale University Health Services 1990-1995.  Spangler, who completed her residency training at Yale-New Haven Hospital, also holds an appointment as clinical professor in the Yale School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences.
