Newly launched calendar showcases University’s rich artistic activity
The Yale Arts Calendar (http://artscalendar.yale.edu) — a comprehensive, University-wide listing of performances, exhibitions, lectures and other activities related to the arts — has been launched by the Yale College Dean’s Office.
The calendar provides one-stop shopping for Yale and New Haven community members looking for a concert, play or talk to attend.
Drawing on the myriad activities of a diverse artistic community — from the dozens of arts-specific undergraduate organizations in Yale College to the performances and installations of the Schools of Music, Drama, Art and Architecture, to the events and exhibitions presented by the University libraries and galleries — the Yale Arts Calendar has a user-friendly, visually navigable format to help visitors search for events by date, by discipline or by keyword.
A typical day’s listings might include the Horowitz Piano Series with Boris Berman at Sprague Hall; the Yale Law School multimedia exhibit, “From Legal Pads to iPads”; a course on natural science illustration at the Peabody Museum; and a reading of works by Dylan Thomas at the Yale Center for British Art.
An initiative of the Office of Associate Dean for the Arts in Yale College, the Yale Arts Calendar aims to build a strong interconnection among the numerous world-class artistic activities taking place on campus every day. The Office of the Associate Dean for the Arts was established in 2009 with the specific goal of harnessing and linking the many resources around the University that are available to Yale College students. By showcasing these opportunities for undergraduates while also raising awareness in the larger University community about arts activities taking place within Yale College, the new calendar highlights the reciprocal and interdepartmental nature of artistic production at Yale.
The Yale Arts Calendar invites wide participation by the community. Events can be submitted by anyone with a valid NetID, whether student, faculty or staff. Instructional sessions will be offered through Yale’s Training and Certification program to those interested in learning more about contributing to the calendar listings. To register, visit https://bmsweb.med.yale.edu/tms/tmspage and enter “Yale Arts Calendar” in the search box.
Note: The Yale Arts Calendar supplements, but does not replace, the listings in the Yale Calendar of Events (http://calendar.yale.edu).
