Concert series to highlight International Cabaret Conference

The days will be devoted to learning and the nights to crooning when the International Cabaret Conference holds its 2011 session at Yale July 22-31.

The days will be devoted to learning and the nights to crooning when the International Cabaret Conference holds its 2011 session at Yale July 22-31.

The intensive nine-day teaching program — headed by Erv Raible, executive director/artistic director — trains professionals for the live entertainment industry. The students, who hail from around the globe, learn everything from performance techniques to acting for singers to material research, comedic development and more.

Students and conference faculty will showcase their skills in the Summer Nights Cabaret Concerts at Yale series, featuring five performances to be held at 7:30 p.m. in Iseman Theater, 1156 Chapel St. Tickets are $35 for general admission; $25 for seniors; and $15 for students. Saturday, July 23

“NOIR … Women and Sex!” an evening of pop music by singer and songwriter Amanda McBroom, whose works include the Grammy-winning song “The Rose,” made famous by Bette Midler, as well as songs for Broadway musicals.

“Aging Is Optional,” the premiere an all-new show by Tovah Feldshuh, who has won four Drama Desk Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards, and an OBIE, and who has been nominated for the Tony Award four times and for an Emmy twice.

Sunday, July 24

“Cabaret Stars in Concert - Our Illustrious Faculty,” featuring special guest Julie Wilson, the Tony-winning singer and actor who has been called the “Queen of Cabaret.”

Thursday, July 28

“A Night with McNight,” featuring Broadway, country-western and other tunes performed by Sharon McNight, who made her Broadway debut in 1989 as Diva in “Starmites,” for which she received a Tony nomination.

“Blues in the Night,” featuring singer and playwright Pamela Tate, who has has opened for Hall & Oates, the Go-Go’s, Joan Jett and Ronnie Blakely.

Friday, July 29

“Sally Mayes in Concert,” featuring the performer who has received Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for her roles in such productions as “She Loves Me” and “Welcome to the Club.”

“The Road to Dreamland,” featuring Laurel Massé, a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning group Manhattan Transfer, whose solo CDs include “Alone Together” and “Easy Living,” both of which hit the Billboard Jazz charts.

Saturday, July 30

“Cabaret Stars of Tomorrow,” featuring the conference’s Class of 2011 members performing an evening of cabaret acts.
