Students at Yale School of Art — consistently ranked as one of the top two fine arts schools in the nation — will open their studios to the public this year on Sunday, May 15, 12 noon to 6 p.m.
The annual event showcases the work of an elite and internationally diverse group of approximately 120 emerging artists who concentrate on one of the four focal areas on the School’s curriculum: painting and printmaking, sculpture, graphic design and photography.
Second year students at the School will display the projects they created for their master’s degrees as well as other work reflecting their formative years at Yale School of Art.
The studios and exhibition spaces are dispersed in three buildings that make up the School of Art: Graphic Design and Photography at Holcombe T. Green Jr. Hall, 1156 Chapel Street; Painting and Printmaking at 353 Crown Street (accessible through Green Hall); Sculpture-and additional photography-at the Sculpture Building, 36 Edgewood Avenue.
More than an exhibition, the Open Studio event is an opportunity for visitors to learn about the individual experience of the artists and as well as the creative process itself, note event organizers.
