Music whiz combines cello with beatboxing

Yale senior Kevin Olusola of Morse College has been making musical waves ever since, at age 12, he became both principal saxophonist and the youngest musician to ever be a part of the United States Wind Band, a professionally touring band of the best high school students in the nation.

In addition to his talent on the sax, Olusola is a cellist and beatboxer. In fact in early 2009, he was named runner-up in the “Celebrate and Collaborate with Yo-Yo Ma” International Competition, coming in second place of over 400 submissions (90% by professional musicians and composers) for his submission of a hip-hop cello/beatbox rendition of “Dona Nobis Pacem.”

At Yale, Olusola has played for the Yale Symphony Orchestra; Driven, the Yale Christian Fellowship’s worship music team; and the band Affirmative with singer Tina Colón.
