Congressman Rob Andrews at Yale to Talk About Health Care Law

U.S. Representative Rob Andrews of New Jersey and Jacob Hacker, the Stanley B. Resor Professor of Political Science at Yale, will hold a discussion on Thursday, March 24 on the past and future of health care reform legislation in the U.S.

Titled “One Year after the Affordable Care Act,” the discussion, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the GM Room of the Yale School of Management, 55 Hillhouse Avenue, at 1:30 p.m.

Hacker is the co-author, most recently, of “Winner Take All Politics” and is the acknowledged architect of the “public option,” which some have argued is essential to lasting health care reform. Andrews, considered a moderate by Democratic peers, has been a key champion of health care legislation in the U.S. Congress.

The discussion comes at the one-year anniversary of the landmark legislation that expanded health care coverage for millions of Americans and offered unprecedented protections to those with coverage. In addition to undiminished partisan attack, the reform bill now faces challenges in court, and parts of its legitimacy will likely be decided by the Supreme Court.

“Looking beyond the hype and the rhetoric, Andrews and Hacker identify the basic principles of the legislation, the key variables that will determine its success, and the political constraints and opportunities ahead,” say organizers of the event.
