Yale Professors Establish Website to Encourage Tax Cut Givebacks

Two Yale professors have developed a website—GiveItBackforJobs.org—to encourage and facilitate Americans to donate the tax cuts just approved by Congress to charitable organizations that help those in need.

Jacob Hacker, the Stanley Resor Professor of Political Science at Yale, and Daniel Markovits, the Guido Calabresi Professor of Law at Yale Law School, along with Cornell law professor Robert Hockett, created the website to allow visitors to calculate what their tax cut would be, choose a charity, and donate the amount of their tax cut to that charity. By making a tax-deductible charitable contribution, the donor is in effect helping those the massive tax cuts left behind.

“The goal of the website is to provide a way for ordinary Americans to put their money where their mouth is and help individuals and organizations who will be harmed by the recent vote to extend the tax cuts,” say the professors.“Donors can pledge their money to support the kinds of programs that will help families, create jobs, and set the country moving toward a just prosperity.”

Hacker is the author, with Paul Pierson, of “Winner Take All Politics: How Washington Made the Rich Richer–and Turned Its Back on the Middle Class.” Last week it was announced in Washington that according to a Rockefeller-Foundation study led by Hacker, more than 9 in 10 American families experienced a significant “economic shock” in recent years.
