MEDIA ADVISORY: Yale CARE Program and New Haven Schools Launch Health Heroes
The Community Alliance for Research and Engagement (CARE) Program at the Yale School of Public Health has partnered with New Haven Public Schools to debut Health Heroes, a social marketing initiative to encourage healthy behaviors, improve student health and target childhood obesity.
The launch event will take place Friday, Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Clinton Avenue School, 293 Clinton Ave. Speakers include Sue Peters, CARE senior program director; Mario Garcia, director of New Haven Health Department; and William F. Clark, chief operating officer of New Haven Public Schools.
Health Heroes will debut at four pilot schools in an ongoing effort to address student health issues. The goal is to inspire students and their families to adopt lifelong healthy behaviors. Students at the event will read short essays and display posters about striving to become a Health Hero. The program will include a Health Hero Wall of Fame, posters, cutouts and other program materials.
