Rodney T. Cohen, formerly of Presbyterian College in South Carolina, has been named as assistant dean of Yale College and director of the Afro-American Cultural Center, announced Yale College Dean Mary Miller.

Since 2006, Cohen served as director for Presbyterian College’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and Office of Student Activities. His previous professional experience includes directorships in academic programming at the University of Notre Dame; development and advancement at the University of Texas Medical Branch and at North Carolina A&T State University; and corporate relations at Fisk University.

“Dean Cohen’s experience collaborating with admissions, alumni affairs, faculty councils and many other programs will be a great boon for the Afro-American Cultural Center and for the Yale College Dean’s Office,” said Miller.

A graduate of Clark College in Atlanta, where he earned a B.S. in biology, Cohen received an M.A. in education and student affairs administration from Western Kentucky University before completing a doctorate in higher education administration at Vanderbilt University.

“As we welcome Dean Cohen, we also offer warm congratulations to Dean Pamela George, whose decade as director of the Afro-American Cultural Center includes increased graduation rates, the management of a stronger infrastructure encompassing a wide-range of student support services and programs, renovation of the center, a leadership development endowment, and the growth of Yale black alumni resources,” said Miller. “In her new role as assistant dean of academic affairs, with special responsibilities for transfer students, readmissions, advising of first-generation college students, and the Yale College Executive Committee, Dean George will continue to play a vital role in the Yale College Dean’s Office and across the Yale community.”
