In order to develop further its ties with Turkish academic institutions and the Turkish people, Yale University is hosting a series of events in that nation May 26 through June 2. “Yale Week in Turkey” will showcase many of the facets that make up the University. Yale faculty, staff, students and alumni will participate in the programs that will take place in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.

The event, being held for the first time this year, is being organized by the Yale Office of International Affairs in partnership with Bogazici University in Istanbul, Bilkent University in Ankara and Yasar University in Izmir.

Yale Week in Turkey aims both to raise the University’s profile in the country and to leverage the highly organized and connected Yale alumni in Turkey. Components of the week will include a forum on responsible business hosted by the World Fellows Program, co-sponsored by Bogazici University and the United Nations Development Program. One highlight of this program will be a keynote address by Howard Dean, a Yale alumnus and former governor and chair of the Democratic National Committee. Other events planned include performances in Istanbul, Ankara and Ismir by the Yale Symphony Orchestra with Turkish piano virtuoso Idil Birit; performances in Istanbul by the Yale School of Drama; ethics in higher education hosted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education; an environmental sustainability panel; and a recruitment event hosted by Jeffrey Brenzel, dean of undergraduate admissions.

“We are extraordinarily proud of relationships that Yale has in Turkey. Yale Week provides an opportunity for us to highlight some of these relationships and Yale’s wonderful program,” said Yale University Vice President and Secretary Linda Koch Lorimer. “In addition, the many dedicated Yale graduates living in Turkey are delighted to share something about their alma mater with the rest of their country. We hope this leads to new partnerships and collaborations with institutions in Turkey and introduces Yale to some additional prospective students and their families. I am thrilled that arts groups like the Yale Symphony Orchestra and the Yale School of Drama are joining our School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, the Yale World Fellows Program, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and others as part of the Yale Week festivities.”

Co-sponsors of Yale Week in Turkey include Koc Holdings, Coca-Cola Turkey, Turkish Airlines, Siemens, and Ulusoy Transport, as well as Yale’s Turkish university partners.
