“Battle of Black and Dogs,” an African-set thriller about a murder cover-up, will be the next production at the Yale Repertory Theatre.

The play by Bernard-Marie Koltès (translated by Michaël Attias) is a tale of psychological warfare that erupts at an isolated construction compound. When a hired man mysteriously dies, his brother arrives at the compound to collect the body. The site manager, his fiancé and an engineer all become embroiled in the cover-up of the worker’s death.

“Battle of Black and Dogs” runs April 16-May 8. It is directed by Robert Woodruff, formerly artistic director of the American Repertory Theatre, who co-adapted and directed the Yale Rep’s 2009 production of “Notes from Underground.”

The cast members — all making their Yale Rep debuts — include Albert Jones (Alboury), Tracy Middendorf (Léone), Andrew Robinson (Horn) and Tommy Schrider (Cal).

The production team features Attias (composer), Riccardo Hernandez (sets), Tom McAlister and Ilona Somogyi (costumes), Stephen Strawbridge (lights), Chad Raines (sound), Amy Boratko (dramaturgy), Rick Sordelet (fight direction), Walton Wilson (vocal coach) and Jenna Woods (stage manager).

Performances are at 8 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, with additional 2 p.m. performances on Saturdays and an 8 p.m. performance on Monday, April 19. Opening night is on Thursday, April 22. Special offerings include “Grad Night” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 17; “Talk Back” discussions with the cast and crew following the 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, April 24, and the 8 p.m. show on Thursday, April 29; and a reception for senior citizens at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28. The 2 p.m. show on Saturday, May 1, is open captioned, and the 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, May 8, is audio described.
