Applications are now being accepted for the fall 2010 “Faith and Globalization” seminar, co-taught by Professor Miroslav Volf of the Yale Divinity School and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Applications for the seminar are now available online at www.yale.edu/sis/sfg. The deadline for submission is noon on Friday, April 30.

The course — which provides a broad yet selective survey of the various ways that faiths and globalization interact in current affairs — debuted in the fall of 2008 as part of the three-year Faith and Globalization Initiative launched by Yale and the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.

This year’s seminar will explore the ways that faiths and globalization are mutually implicated in matters such as religious pluralism, secularization theory, free markets, corporate governance, poverty alleviation, conflict resolution, gender, interfaith relations, environmental sustainability, democracy, human rights and international relations.

Students in the seminar will also participate in video conferences with students in similar courses at the National University of Singapore and at Peking University in China.

Compared to previous years, enrollment in the course is being expanded. Approximately 10 students will be selected from each of the following: Yale College, the Divinity School, the School of Management, the Law School, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences or other professional schools at Yale.

Only continuing students are eligible for admission to the course; applications will not be accepted from students graduating this spring or entering in fall 2010.

The “Faith and Globalization” course will meet weekly on Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:20 p.m.
