Economist Rajan To Present Okun Lecture

Noted economist Raghuram G. Rajan will deliver the 2010 Arthur M. Okun Public Policy Lecture on Thursday, March 25.

Rajan will discuss “Is It Over Yet? The Deeper Underpinnings of the Crisis,” 4-5:30 p.m. in Rm. 114, Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall, 1 Prospect Street. The talk is free and open to the public.

Rajan is the Eric J. Gleacher Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the Chicago Booth School of Business, where he has been on the faculty since 1991. He is also currently an economic adviser to the prime minister of India. His major research focus is on economic growth and the role finance plays in it.

Rajan is co-author, with Luigi Zingales, of the book “Saving Capitalism from the Capitalists.” He is a director of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the current vice president of the American Finance Association and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The lecture series honors the memory of Arthur M. Okun (1928-1980), a longtime professor of economics at Yale who is best known for the widely accepted economic principle Okun’s Law. The lecture series seeks to recognize and encourage professional economists who search for policies that will contribute to the betterment of life and living.
