Fellows win national awards for work in pediatrics

Three fellows in the Department of Pediatrics recently won national research awards at the annual meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies.

Dr. Sachin Desai, a fellow in pediatric infectious disease, won a Fellows Clinical Research Award. Desai conducts research on the effectiveness of rotavirus vaccine in preventing hospitalization of young children.

Dr. Laurie Steiner, a fellow in neonatology, won a basic science award. Steiner’s research goal is to eventually provide new insights into human genetic disease.

Dr. Cynthia D’Alessandri, a fellow in pediatric nephrology, won the American Society for Pediatric Nephrology Trainee Basic Science Award. D’Alessandri’s research goal is to gain a better understanding of the signaling pathways involved in kidney injury and repair, which will likely lead to improved methods of treating patients with a variety of kidney injuries.
