Memorial Service for Dr. Jay Katz

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, April 5, for Dr. Jay Katz, the Elizabeth K. Dollard Professor Emeritus of Law, Medicine and Psychiatry, who died on Nov. 17 at age 86.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, April 5, for Dr. Jay Katz, the Elizabeth K. Dollard Professor Emeritus of Law, Medicine and Psychiatry, who died on Nov. 17 at age 86.

The service will take place at 1 p.m. in the Law School’s Levinson Auditorium, 127 Wall St.

Katz, who was also the Harvey L. Karp Professorial Lecturer in Law and Psychoanalysis, served on the Yale Law School faculty for over five decades.

He was an eminent scholar in reproductive technology law and ethics. Among his many activities, he was a member of a committee that prepared the Connecticut law governing the privilege between patient and psychotherapist; served on the national panel that studied and exposed the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment; called for a national board to oversee human experimentation; was a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments; championed the concept of truly informed consent; and opposed the criminal prosecution of pregnant women.
