Edward Zigler earns the ‘Nobel Prize for Children’
Edward Zigler, Sterling Professor Emeritus of Psychology, was honored with a Humanitarian Award by the World of Children organization on Nov. 13.
World of Children is a global recognition and funding non-profit organization that “recognizes people who are changing the lives of children around the world.” Known as the “Nobel Prize© for Children,” the awards program searches the globe for everyday changemakers and provides funding and recognition to support their work for children.
Zigler was cited for improving “the health, education, social and emotional well being of nearly every child in America and thousands worldwide through five decades of pioneering work in early childhood development.”
Helen Resor selected for annual U.S.A. Women’s Holiday Camp
Yale senior defenseman Helen Resor was selected to be part of a group of 58 of the nation’s top women’s ice hockey players that will convene in Blaine, Minnesota, for U.S.A. Hockey’s annual Women’s Holiday Camp.
Resor has the most international experience of any Bulldog. She was the first Yale player to make an Olympic team roster when she was named to Team USA for the 2006 Torino games. Resor and Team USA earned a bronze medal. She has also participated in two IIHF World Championships, earning a gold medal in 2005 and a silver medal in 2007, and has been a part of three silver-medal efforts at the Four Nations Cup.
The holiday camp will take place Dec. 26-31. It serves as a tryout and training session for the U.S. women’s national team and U.S. women’s national under-18 team, both of which participate in world championships in the early part of 2009.
Academic All-Ivy honors 10 Yale student-athletes
Ten Yale student-athletes were honored by the Ivy League for Academic All-Ivy. To be eligible, student-athletes had to be starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages. Each institution nominated five men and women from its eligible student-athletes.
The honorees are: Casey Gerald, football; Max Rhodes, men’s soccer; John Hinkle, men’s cross country; Kyle Hawari, football; Shebby Swett, football; Kristen Wilk, volleyball; Maggie Westfal, women’s soccer; Natalia Mann, women’s soccer; Bevin Peters, women’s cross country; and Ali Rotondo, field hockey.
