Yale University was dismayed by a report that Peru will sue the University to recover archaeological material legally excavated at Machu Picchu by Hiram Bingham III nearly one hundred years ago. Yale officials had a positive informal meeting on September 27 in New York with Peru's Foreign Minister about finalizing a collaborative agreement.

Yale officials had a positive informal meeting on September 27 in New York with Peru’s Foreign Minister about finalizing a collaborative agreement.

Yale continues to believe that an accord can be reached that would meet the goals of the parties and the broad public interest regarding the collection’s conservation, accessibility, security and availability for scholarly study.
