Exhibition Celebrates 100 Years of Book Jacket Designs at the Yale Press

An exhibition of book jacket designs from the Yale University Press will be on view at the Whitney Humanities Center Nov. 5-Dec. 19 as part of the publishing house’s centenary celebration.

The exhibit features book jackets from the past decade, with titles ranging from “Proust in Love” and “Lichens” to “The Yale Book of Quotations” and “The Plausibility of Life.” Featured designers include Daphne Geismar, James Johnson, Mary Valencia, Nancy Ovedovitz, Richard Hendel and Sonia Shannon, among others.

The Yale Press designers have received numerous prestigious awards. The exhibit, according to its organizers, aims to honor its designers and “excite visitors with the colorful, witty and sometimes haunting beauty of these fine designs.”

The exhibition is in the Gallery at the Whitney, 53 Wall St. Exhibition hours are Monday and Wednesday, 3-5 p.m., or by appointment by calling (203) 432-0670.
