Memorial Service for Jane Panico
There will be a service of remembrance on Friday, June 20, in celebration of the life of the late Jane Panico, who served for 30 years as head nurse of the Inpatient Facility at Yale University Health Services (YUHS).
The service will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Dwight Chapel, 67 High St. A reception in the common room at Dwight Hall will follow.
Panico headed the Inpatient Facility for 30 years before retiring from that post. “Jane created a culture of caring and warmth that permeated YUHS and persists to this day,” said Dr. Moreson Kaplan, associate director for medical affairs and former medical director at YUHS. “Her radiant warmth filled not only the room but the whole place.”
After retiring from the head nurse post in 1991, Panico continued to serve as the nurse in charge of chemotherapy. “She has patients today who still talk about her serenity and about the difference she made to and for them as they struggled with the chemotherapy,” said Molly Meyer, assistant clinical professor at the School of Nursing and nurse practitioner at YUHS.
Panico requested that memorial contributions in her name be made to Yale University Health Services. The Jane Panico Educational Fund at Yale Health Plan, designed to support nursing education, has been established in her honor. Donations may be sent to Dr. Paul Genecin, Director, Yale Health Plan, 17 Hillhouse Ave., P.O. Box 208237, New Haven, CT, 06520-8237.
