Statement on the Death of Pierre-André Salim
Yale School of Drama Dean James Bundy issued the following statement today on the death of Pierre-André Salim:
“The Yale School of Drama suffered a grievous loss with the death of a remarkable student in the Technical Design and Production program on November 18th. Pierre-André Salim ‘09 died while unloading sets for the upcoming show at Yale Repertory Theatre where he was serving with distinction as the Assistant Technical Director. The theater community has lost a young talent who would have been prominent for decades to come. As Dean of the School, I express our heartfelt sympathy to Pierre’s family and friends in Indonesia, Singapore and the United States, and our deepest regrets and apologies for any factors that could have contributed to this tragedy.”

In addition, to honor Pierre’s life and work, the School of Drama will establish a scholarship in perpetuity, called the Pierre-André Salim Memorial Scholarship, covering full tuition and living expenses for one entering student each year for the duration of his/her program with a geographical first preference for students from Southeast Asia and second preference for students from elsewhere in Asia, and with a preference for students in technical theatre and design.
