WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy to Speak at Yale on October 24
Pascal Lamy, the director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will present a lecture on October 24, hosted by the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization.
The lecture, titled “The Doha Round: An Agenda for Sustainable Development,” will take place at 7 p.m. in Rm. 114, Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall, at the corner of Prospect and Grove streets. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Lamy was appointed director-general of the WTO in 2005. Prior to this appointment, he was the trade commissioner at the European Commission.
He began his career in the French civil service at the treasury, then became an adviser, first to the finance minister, then to the prime minister. In Brussels, from 1985 to 1994, he was the chief of staff for the president of the European Commission, Jacques Delors. From 1994 to 1999, he was with Credit Lyonnais and became CEO until its privatization in 1999.
