The Greening of Yale and Beyond Symposium on October 18

New Haven, CT — “The Greening of Yale and Beyond,” a symposium focused on alternative energy and related topics, will take place Thursday, October 18th from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the University’s Battell Chapel.

New Haven, CT — “The Greening of Yale and Beyond,” a symposium focused on alternative energy and related topics, will take place Thursday, October 18th from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the University’s Battell Chapel.

Speakers at the symposium, which is free and open to the public, include Yale President Richard C. Levin, who will discuss Yale’s green initiatives, including its commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

“The symposium will focus on the topic of alternative energy and cover Yale’s current initiatives in this area, as well as sustainable design and green building, solar energy, green chemistry, and corporate responsibility,” said Derek E.G. Briggs, director of the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies.

Briggs will deliver opening remarks at 1:30 p.m. and closing remarks at 6 p.m. The schedule of speakers at the symposium is as follows:

  • 1:45 p.m. – Yale University President Richard C. Levin: “The Greening of Yale”
  • 2:30 p.m. – Paul Anastas, Director of Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering: “Green Chemistry: Designing Tomorrow”
  • 3:15 p.m. – Howard Berke, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder Konarka Technologies; Investment Executive, Good Energies: “Future Solar Technology”
  • 4:30 p.m. – James Axley, Professor of the Yale School of Architecture and the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies: “Beyond the LEED®ing Edge - Building on Yale’s Traditions for a Sustainable Future”
  • 5:15 – Marian Chertow, Associate Professor of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies: “Corporate Leadership in Going Green”

The symposium is presented by the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies and sponsored by the Edward P. Bass Distinguished Lecture Series. Battell Chapel is located at 400 College Street in New Haven.
