Yale Professor Beverly Gage Hosts History Channel Shows
Beverly Gage |
Beverly Gage, a member of the faculty in the History Department at Yale, will be the expert guide in two History Channel programs exploring the early history of the Cold War.
The episodes, part of the History Channel’s Lost Worlds series, will air August 15 and 29 at 9 p.m.
The programs examine strategic atomic production and testing sites, as well top-secret bunkers designed to protect key U.S. personnel in case of nuclear attack.
Among the locations Gage will visit are the Nevada nuclear test site, the high-security NORAD facilities at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, and a vast bunker at West Virginia’s Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia, designed to house Congress in the event of nuclear war.
Gage teaches 20th century American history at Yale, with a focus on U.S. politics. An established journalist who has contributed to such publications as the New York Times, The Nation magazine and the Chicago Tribune, Gage is author of the forthcoming book “The Day Wall Street Exploded: A Story of America in its First Age of Terror” (Oxford University Press, 2008). The book is an account of the still-unexplained 1920 terrorist bombing of the financial district in New York, in which 39 people lost their lives.
