Yale PET Center Opens with President Levin and Pfizer CEO
Members of the media are invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the state-of-the-art Yale Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Research Center for molecular imaging at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 18 in the Anlyan Center Auditorium, 300 Cedar St.
Speakers will be:
• Yale President Richard C. Levin,
• Yale School of Medicine Dean Robert Alpern, M.D.,
• U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) official George Mills, M.D.,
• Pfizer, Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey B. Kindler,
• Pfizer, Inc. Vice President of Worldwide Clinical Research Operations Diane K. Jorkasky, M.D.
PET is a non-invasive diagnostic scanning technique that provides researchers and clinicians with visual images of organ function. PET scans can detect biochemical changes in body tissues before structural damage occurs from disease. These indications of early disease allow clinicians to more quickly identify and treat disease and to target drug effectiveness in clinical trials.
Interview opportunities will be available immediately following the ceremony at approximately 5:15 p.m.
The work described above was funded, fully or in part, by the Yale Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) grant from the National Center for Research Resources at the National Institutes of Health.
