Yale Faculty Members Named Fellows of Academy of Arts and Sciences

Eight Yale University faculty members were inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences on October 7.

Eight Yale University faculty members were inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences on October 7.

The new Fellows are Dudley Andrew, professor of film studies and comparative literature; Donald W.K. Andrews, the T. C. Koopmans Professor of Economics; Ian Ayres, the William K. Townsend Professor of Law; Judith Chevalier, professor of finance and economics; Peter J. Novick, professor of cell biology; John E. Roemer, the Elizabeth S. and A. Varick Stout Professor of Political Science and Economics; Gordon Murray Shepherd, professor of neuroscience; and Nicholas Wolterstorff, the Noah Porter Professor of Philosophical Theology.

Other members of the 226th class of Fellows include former Presidents William Jefferson Clinton and George H.W. Bush; Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts; the chairman and vice chairman of the 9/11 commission, Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton; actor and director Martin Scorsese; conductor Michael Tilson Thomas; and New York Stock Exchange chairman Marshall Carter.

The 175 Fellows and 20 Foreign Honorary Members who make up the American Academy’s 226th class are leaders in scholarship, business, the arts and public affairs. They come from 24 states and 13 countries and include Nobel and Pulitzer Prize laureates, MacArthur and Guggenheim fellows.
