State of the Union Advisory for Education Writers
Education reporters covering President Bush’s State of the Union address are invited to speak Tuesday with Yale President Richard C. Levin regarding the issue of economic competitiveness through education and research.
Levin was a member of the National Academies’ Committee on Prospering in the Global Economy, which was asked by Congress for recommendations to enhance the science and technology enterprise so that the United States can successfully compete.
President Bush is expected to reference the committee’s work in his speech. The committee’s recommendations include recruiting science and mathematics teachers for grades K-12 and enhancing support for research in basic science.
