Yale University Properties celebrates the opening of Ciao Bella Gelato Co., a premier producer of high-end handmade ice cream and sorbet.

The press is invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 6 at 2 p.m. in front of Ciao Bella at 82 Wall St.

“Ciao Bella started in New York’s Little Italy. Our chef, a native born Italian, uses traditional recipes to create the finest gelati and sorbeti,” said Russ Chinici, owner of Ciao Bella in New Haven. “We knew New Haven would be a place where the gelato would be appreciated.”

Ciao Bella will also serve paninis, crepes and coffee along with its award-winning gelato, which includes such innovative flavors as Vahrohna Chocolate, Scharffenberger Chocolate, Fresh Mint, Blackberry Cabernet and Blood Orange.

“With their location in Grand Central Station, many people are already familiar with the brand,” said David Newton, director of University Properties. “Ciao Bella is a wonderful addition to New Haven’s culinary landscape.”

“Yale University has been an active partner in promoting New Haven’s economic development through our community investment program. We welcome Ciao Bella, our 85th merchant,” said Bruce Alexander, Yale vice president and director of New Haven and State Affairs.

Ciao Bella is one of the many new businesses that have located in downtown New Haven, a city with world-renowned museums and theaters, award-winning restaurants and eclectic boutiques.
