Two Yale seniors, Annemarie Baltay and Alexander McCall Caplan, received the Robert E. Lewis Award for intramural sports during Senior Class Day exercises on May 22.
The award is presented each year to the senior or seniors who have shown commitment and high ideals as participants in intramural sports. The awards were presented by Frank C. Keil, chair of the Council of Masters Committee on Athletics, master of Morse College and professor of psychology and linguistics.
The award citations are printed below.
Annemarie Baltay. While competing in up to three club sports per year, Annemarie has also played every conceivable intramural sport, from touch football to volleyball to softball, and even bowling and billiards in a pinch. More than any other member of her class, she has strived to keep Saybrook College in the race for the Tyng Cup, and she has been unceasingly positive, even as the college has held the number two position to Ezra Stiles for the past three years. College Council President of Saybrook, Annemarie also led her class to 100 percent participation in senior class giving.
Alexander McCall Caplan. Mac is now in his third year as one of the Jonathan Edwards intramural secretaries, and has played on fifteen IM teams. Mac’s commitment to JE IM’s and his dedication to amateur sportsmanship are infectious, and he has led JE to top three finishes overall in each of the last three years. He is currently serving as a campus correspondent for Sports Illustrated On Campus and has also served as sports editor, senior editor and executive editor of the Yale Herald. But as an IM participant and leader, Mac’s spectacular achievements place him in a league of his own.
