Asthma Screenings Held at Local Automotive Dealership
Yale School of Medicine’s Pediatric Asthma Care Team will provide asthma screenings for the community at Dave McDermott Auto Group, 55 Main St., East Haven on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In honor of World Asthma Day (May 3), physicians and nurses from Yale’s Pediatric Respiratory Medicine Group will distribute the Asthma Control Test™ to assess asthma control, measure lung function and provide information about asthma, a chronic lung disease that has become a major health issue in Connecticut and across the nation. It is the leading cause of missed school days, emergency room visits for chronic illness and admission to the hospital. About 5,000 people die from an asthma attack each year.
In Connecticut, about 180,000 adults and 86,000 children under the age of 18 have asthma. Annually, about 1,400 children under the age of 15 are admitted to the hospital and 6,000 children are seen in the emergency room because of asthma attacks.
Recent surveys show that many people with asthma are not properly diagnosed and/or adequately treated for their disease.
Tina Tolomeo, nurse practitioner in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Respiratory Medicine, coordinated the event.
Refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Tolomeo at 203–785–2480.
