Yale Orchestra with Actress Kate Burton Perform Concert

The Saybrook Orchestra, an 80-piece full symphony orchestra composed of students, faculty and staff affiliated with Yale University, will offer a free educational concert to students from all over the state of Connecticut on Friday, December 10 at 10 a.m.

The concert will take place at Yale’s Battell Chapel, corner of Elm and College streets, and is the centerpiece of the orchestra’s educational outreach for the 2004-05 season. The program, including popular works by Holst and Mussorgsky and featuring a suite by John Williams from the movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” will be narrated by the noted actress of stage and screen Kate Burton, a graduate of the Yale School of Drama. Over 900 students and educators, representing the schools of New Haven, East Haven, Milford, Bridgeport, Trumbull, Branford, Southington, Hamden and Middletown will be in attendance.

The Saybrook Orchestra is dedicated to offering live performances to as many students as possible in order to familiarize them with classical music and the sound of a full symphonic orchestra. “Each student who comes into that performing space is a potential lover of classical music,” says Perry So, music director of the Saybrook Orchestra since its founding in 2001. “Our hope is to fan the flames a little, and help them discover something they weren’t expecting.”
