Fifteen members of Yale University’s Police Department will participate in the final leg of the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Friday, June 11.
This is the first time that Yale officers are joining the annual run, which kicks off the local Special Olympics, scheduled to start on June 12 at Southern Connecticut State University.
Yale police officers will take the torch from their Hamden counterparts at the intersection of Dixwell and Munson avenues at approximately 4:25 p.m. They will run 2.8 miles, accompanied by special athletes, to the end of the course at Humphrey Street. As they run, the torch will be passed from hand to hand.
Yale’s coordinator is Sergeant Jay Jones, who was a special education-physical education teacher before joining the Yale force in 1991.
