This specialty running store offers footwear, apparel and accessories for active men and women, and knowledgeable trained staff who specialize in the custom fitting of running shoes. Sound Runner promises “to serve the New Haven and regional community with high-quality merchandise and dedication to customer service,” according to owners Bob and Julie Frances.

Bob and Julie are the husband and wife team that owns and operates Sound Runner in New Haven, building on the success of their two other running and sports apparel stores in downtown Branford. “We are proud to become part of the renaissance in New Haven and the family of merchants in the thriving Broadway district. We are excited to bring the Sound Runner brand of commitment to service to the community, and we look forward to serving our customers seven days per week and in the evening.”

Bob and Julie are themselves avid runners, and they apply their firsthand knowledge and experience to helping customers. “We offer our customers personalized service, such as the customized fitting of running shoes, as well as encouragement in achieving personal fitness goals at any level.” Organized from their store in Branford, they lead a weekly run, support track teams and host educational events. They look forward to engaging the New Haven community with similar programs and events. Bob and Julie also hire experienced runners to help staff their stores, so that customers are assured of receiving knowledgeable help in choosing running shoes and apparel.

David Newton, associate vice president and director of University Properties notes, “The Sound Runner concept will serve the area’s multitude of runners and fitness enthusiasts not only with high-quality and competitively priced products, but also with operating hours that accommodate the community’s shopping habits. Recent focus group feedback tells us that area shoppers appreciate stores that are open seven days a week, including evenings.” Sound Runner is open until 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Because of its Community Investment Program, Yale University is the single largest property tax payer in the city of New Haven. University Properties leases to 71 merchants, of which 66 are local and independent.
