Fifteen of the country’s brightest college students are about to face off in a tournament testing their brain power at one of the country’s most prestigious campuses. Jeopardy! will tape its annual College Championship October 3 & 4, 2003 on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The tournament, which will tape at The Lanman Center at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium, will pay off with a minimum $50,000 in cash and a brand new $40,000 Volvo S60R to the winner, as well as $50,000 scholarship monies to the winner’s school. The shows will air nationally from November 10 - 21, 2003 and are broadcast in Connecticut on WTNH, News Channel 8 at 7:00pm (please check local listings for station and time in other markets).

“Yale is one of the most highly regarded educational institutions in the world,” says Harry Friedman, Executive Producer of Jeopardy! “This will be the first Ivy League campus to host the Jeopardy! College Championship – it’s a winning combination. We know the students at Yale and the city of New Haven will make this a truly memorable event,” continued Friedman.

The Jeopardy! contestant coordinators traveled the country searching for the best collegiate Jeopardy! players across America. On September 23, the Jeopardy! Clue Crew was on hand at the Yale campus, auditioning over 1,200 prospective student candidates for the national tournament. This year’s College Champion is guaranteed a minimum $50,000 cash prize, a $50,000 scholarship to the winner’s school, a specially designed trophy, and a new car. In the first week, each player will appear in one of five shows. The winners of each of these shows, along with the next four highest money earners will go on to the semi-finals. In the second week, the nine semi-finalists will compete in three shows for a place in the two-game final match. The second place contestant is guaranteed a minimum of $25,000 and third place pockets a minimum of $15,000. Semi-finalists receive $5,000 and players eliminated in the first week receive $2,500.
