Yale Sponsors War Forum on April 4

On Friday, April 4, 2-4 p.m. Yale’s Program in Ethics, Politics and Economics is presenting an open forum on the Iraq war with Yale faculty members from diverse academic disciplines.

The panel includes the following Yale professors and their respective fields of expertise: Arjun Appadurai, international studies and anthropology; Bruce Ackerman, law and political science; Seyla Benhabib, political science and philosophy; Paul Gilroy, African-American studies and sociology; Ben Kiernan, history and genocidal studies; and Gaspar Tam‡s, ethics, politics and economics.

This forum will address America’s current war effort from a range of perspectives that seek to deepen public debate in the mass media and across campus. Among the issues to be addressed are the relationship of the U.S. Congress to the war, the politics of humanitarian intervention, the relationship of globalization to the war and the moral dimensions of military action and conduct.

Each panelist will speak for several minutes about a distinctive aspect of the war that touches upon his or her area of scholarship. The floor will then be opened for questions, discussion and debate.

The Program in Ethics, Politics and Economics is committed to raising the awareness of the Yale community about ethical and political issues of major public concern. This event is free and open to all, and members of the New Haven community are encouraged to attend and participate. The forum will take place at the Davies Auditorium of Becton Hall, 15 Prospect St.
