AllLearn President to Assume New Duties at TIAA-CREF
Herbert M. Allison Jr., the first president and chief executive of AllLearn.org, will resign his duties, effective November 1, to assume the job of chairman, president and chief executive officer of Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association and College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF), the nation’s premier pension fund for employees of educational and research institutions.
AllLearn is a non-profit joint venture of Oxford, Stanford and Yale that offers arts and science courses and other educational programming via the Internet. Under Allison’s leadership, AllLearn has worked with its member universities to develop more than 50 courses. In its first year of operation, AllLearn has enrolled more than 2,000 students from 27 countries and provided free public access to a unique online library of some 12,000 academic web sites. Courses were initially available only to alumni and friends of the three member universities, but AllLearn is now actively seeking to expand its audience.
“Herb Allison has done an extraordinary job in launching AllLearn,” said Richard C. Levin, president of Yale University and chairman of AllLearn.org. “In a very short period of time, he assembled an exceptional team at AllLearn, engaged some of the most outstanding teachers at Oxford, Stanford and Yale, and produced courses that have been received enthusiastically by alumni. We are grateful for his energetic leadership and delighted that he will remain a member of our Board of Directors as he assumes his new role at TIAA-CREF.” Levin added, “Oxford, Stanford and Yale are committed to the success of AllLearn. We expect to name a successor within a few days.”
