Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, on Wednesday October 2 will give a public address at 4:30 p.m. in Battell Chapel on the corner of College and Elm Streets.
Ernesto Zedillo, President of Mexico from 1994 to 2000 and director of the Center will introduce the Secretary-General, a guest of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization.
Annan will speak about structuring globalization around shared values and will specifically address the importance of broadening globalization to include those individuals and populations who have yet to realize its benefits.
Doors to Battell will open at 3:30 p.m. and individuals planning on attending the lecture are encouraged to arrive early. Members of the media should contact the Yale Office of Public Affairs if they are planning on attending.
Annan was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2001 on the 100th anniversary of the award. He is the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations and the first Secretary-General to be elected from the ranks of United Nations staff.
The Yale Center for the Study of Globalization is devoted to exploring the implications of a more tightly integrated world for nations, societies and individuals, and seeks to promote the search for policy solutions to globalization’s challenges.
