An Exhibit at Yale Is a Portrait of the Class of '01

Yale's Class of '01 has less than one week before dispersing.

Yale’s Class of ‘01 has less than one week before dispersing.

Catherine Price, a member of that class, had an idea to commemorate the milestone: She asked many of her classmates to submit essays about what Yale meant to them and to say something about what they hoped to achieve after graduation. Then she took their pictures and mounted them with the essays.

The result, now on view at Davenport College, is an exhibit of some 30 portraits and accompanying personal reflections that anyone can relate to.

“I will change the world in a way that no one would ever expect, particularly my mom,” says Michael Zimmer. “Relax, Mom, I’ve got everything under control.”

David Valdez, who spent last summer learning commedia del’arte in Italy, sees entertainment in his future. “I have visions of starring in my own sit com or being on Saturday Night Live or becoming a movie star,” he writes.

Josh Berezin, author of the best-selling “How I Got Into Yale,” is graduating now. He will run a cross-continental bicycle trip this summer to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity.

Catherine Price will be part of that trip. “I want to find a way to be paid for being me,” she writes of the future.

The exhibit will be in “Studio ‘56” at Davenport College until Friday. Call Barbara Munck at 432-0550 for more information.
